The hidden risks of diabetes
There are many factors that increase your risk of Type 2 diabetes, like family history, age, and race. However, obesity, diet, and physical inactivity are the primary risk factors. The good news is that these behaviors can be managed. Learn more about diabetes.
Risks
If you have type 2 diabetes you have a greater risk of developing cancer.
Type 2 diabetes increases the risk of certain types of cancer including:
- Liver
- Pancreas
- Endometrium
- Colon and rectum
- Breast
- Bladder
Type 2 diabetes and cancer have shared risk factors.
There are certain risk factors both diseases share that may, in part, contribute to that risk:
- Aging
- Obesity
- Diet
- Physical Inactivity
If you have type 2 diabetes, get screened for cancer.
It’s important for you to follow recommended cancer screening guidelines to stay aware of any changes in your body. Be sure to report any symptoms to your primary care provider. It’s important to find cancer at an early stage, when it’s most treatable.
